Not a basketball expert? No problem! At Flagler Tavern, we’re all about the vibe. Here is everything you need to know to sound like a pro while you’re grabbing a burger and a brew.

1. What is “The Big Dance”?

It’s just a fancy nickname for the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. It starts with 68 teams and is “single-elimination”—which means if a team loses once, they are out and go home.

2. What are “Seeds”?

Think of seeds as rankings. In each section of the bracket, teams are ranked 1 through 16.

• #1 Seeds: These are the “A+ students”—the best teams in the country (this year, keep an eye on teams like Duke, Arizona, Michigan, and Florida).
• #16 Seeds: The underdogs. It is very rare for a #16 to beat a #1, but when it happens, the whole world goes crazy!

3. What is a “Cinderella Story”?

A “Cinderella” is a low-ranked team (like a #12 or #15 seed) that keeps winning against the big, famous schools. Everyone loves a Cinderella because they “break” everyone’s predictions.

4. The Schedule: How it Whittles Down

The tournament moves fast! You’ll hear people talking about these stages:

• The First Round: 64 teams playing at once (The most chaotic and fun days!).
• Sweet 16: The final 16 teams left standing.
• Elite Eight: The final 8.
• Final Four: The last four teams, who head to the big finale in Indianapolis this year.
• Championship Game: The last two teams play for the trophy on Monday, April 6th.

5. What’s a “Busted Bracket”?
