Tell us about your mom:
We love our moms so much and we bet you do too. We invite you to tell us, in 200 words or less, exactly how special your mom is. Post your shout out to Mom all week long from Monday 5/6 through Saturday 5/11 on our Flagler Tavern Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/FlaglerTavern/ ) with #ilovemom #flaglertavern. One lucky wordsmith who puts in into words how we all feel about our number one super hero will be selected to win dinner for their mom on Mother’s Day.*
So tell me about your mom and I’ll tell you about mine. Boy its hard to bring it down to just 200 words but I managed to do it crying the whole time. So here is my post. Now I’ve told you about my mom, it’s your turn.
“You and me against the world”
I can still hear my mother singing to me, the Helen Reddy song “You and me against the world” as tears trickle from my eyes. It really was just her and I against the world for the first 13 years of my life. Little did I know as a child, the real-life adult trials she was going through as a single mom in the 60s and 70s, struggling to put food on the table and keep a roof over our heads. Or, how close we came to not making it, or her giving up. She didn’t give up. She worked day and night and somehow always found a way to keep us going, give me ballet lessons, an endless supply of books and put me through private school. Every good part of who I am came from her. She taught me the difference between right and wrong, not black and white. She instilled in me a love of music, art, reading and a fundamental belief that we are all equal. My mom is my best friend and my hero, I am so lucky to have lived long enough to have figured that out. I LOVE YOU MOM!
Now I better dry my eyes and call my mom and tell her how much I love her. Life is short, don’t waste it!
